Acting Governor Nicholas P. Scutari yesterday signed into law the New Jersey Design Professional Self-Certification Act (S3402/A4350). Championed by NAIOP NJ, the new law will help streamline approvals and advance development and redevelopment projects.
NAIOP NJ achieved this victory by collaborating with a core group of allied partners and working closely with the governor’s office.
“Communities throughout New Jersey will benefit from this new law because it will remove hurdles to economic development and contribute to the efficient and timely approval of construction projects,” said NAIOP NJ CEO Dan Kennedy. “NAIOP NJ believes that alleviating costly delays is critical to the success of any commercial real estate development or redevelopment plan.”
NAIOP NJ is grateful to Assemblyman Robert J. Karabinchak, Assemblyman Louis D. Greenwald, Assemblyman Anthony S. Verrelli, Senate President Scutari, and Senator Paul A. Sarlo for sponsoring the legislation and guiding it through the legislature. NAIOP NJ also thanks its public affairs counsel Anthony Pizzutillo for his determination in getting the bill enacted and Jay Rhatican of Hartz Mountain Industries for his help formulating the bill.
NAIOP NJ will assist New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Jacquelyn A. Suárez and her team in establishing the program through which the commissioner will certify an architect or engineer who meets certain criteria as a qualified design professional.
